The School of Humanity & Law is a secondary teaching unit that is mainly constructed by the University. It insists on running schools for the local, grassroots and industry-oriented, and cultivates application-oriented talents with solid theory and great hands-on ability. There are four majors: Journalism, Internet and New Media, Advertisement, and Law. Among them, Journalism and Communication is the key discipline in Hubei and the setting point discipline of Chutian Scholars; Journalism is the key undergraduate major in Hubei, and the comprehensive reform pilot unit of Hubei universities. At the same time, the School is also the direct reports units of public opinion of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, and the Hubei Provincial Public Opinion Research Base. The public opinion materials submitted have been approved by the state leaders many times.

The School has 50 full-time teachers, including 6 professors and 19 associate professors. The teachers with senior titles account for 50%. The School implements the Three-Semester System. Each year, students are arranged to participate in media internships, enterprises, Public Security, Procuratorate, Court, Justice Bureau and law offices to participate in a three-month professional training, so that undergraduates have about 270 days of professional work experience before graduation, which greatly enhances the students' professional value and employment competitiveness. At present, students majoring in Journalism have published more than 100,000 works; the pass rate of Certificate A in judicial examination for students majoring in Law is much higher than the national average pass rate for three consecutive years. In 2017, the pass rate was as high as 51.8%, which is far exceeding the national average pass rate of 10%.
